If you have never seen or shot ZZ Bird (helice) check out this short video (2:55).

The club has contracted with a company that runs ZZ Bird shoots out in PA. They will be setting up the ring for us, providing the FIVE machines as well as someone to manage the options and scoring. There will also be TWO runners who will literally run out to the machines after each target is thrown to load a new ZZ Bird.

This is a 20 target event. Each shooter gets two shots at 5 targets. After your 5 targets the next shooter steps up to try his/her luck. Once all shooters have shot at their 5 targets the first shooter steps back up to the line and the action continues until every shooter has shot at their 20 targets. Because these targets truly simulate the flight of real birds you are allowed TWO shots at each target.

This is an all day event but don't worry, we provide breakfast and lunch as part of your entrance fee.

ZZ Birds are nothing like trap targets. They are a 2-piece target, a round "witness cap" that is assembled into a finned holder. The launcher spins the targets up to at least 5,000 RPM before releasing it. The whirling propeller action causes the bird to fly erratically, just like a pheasant flushed in the field. It is affected by every little breeze and change in the wind. The target can, and will, climb and then dive, zip to the right, zag to the left and any other conceivable motion. In ZZ Bird you will NEVER see the same target twice. Oh, did I mention that there are five machines in the field but the target is thrown randomly from one of them. You won't know until the bird is launched which machine is throwing the target. In order to score a hit your must hit the bird with enough force to dislodge the "witness cap". There will be a 24" high barrier 21 yards in front of the machines. The witness cap must land inside this fence to be considered a scorable hit. You need to be quick in this game, the sooner you can acquire the target, aim and fire, the more likely it is you will score a hit. This event will be scored by the people running it, not club members, and their decisions are final.
